Anne Thompson- Practice Manager
Anne is our Practice Manager. She was born in Ireland and moved to the UK in 1988. She came to the practice as Finance Manager in February 2000, but with our purpose built St Columb Hospital project on the cards Anne became Practice Manager in 2004. The project was completed in 2006. Anne then went on to project manage the refurbishment of our Newquay Surgery which opened in 2008.
Her background is in Finance and she has completed her ACCA qualifications plus a B-Tec in Business and Finance. Her main interest is in progressing the practice to a very high standard
Outside of work Anne is interested in swimming and travelling.
Anne’s ambitions for the future are to take on more projects which will ensure our clients and patients the best possible staff, service and facilities. She wants to provide a modern, well equipped group of practices which our staff are proud to work at.

Claire Anstey - Deputy Practice Manager
Claire is our Deputy Practice Manager and an integral part of our Admin Team.
Claire joined the practice in February 1998 having moved back to Cornwall following a successful career working as a Legal PA to senior Advocates in Alderney, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.
Claire’s role within the practice is to implement and oversee various administrative duties including the payroll, the collation of personnel records, credit control, IT issues, staff training in veterinary software and related matters and the organisation of building maintenance.
Outside of work Claire’s interests include gardening, cooking, cycling, walking, photography, computers, films and music.
Whilst Claire is interested in all animals her only pet is a rather large cat called Jack who needed a home from the practice about 8 years ago. Claire reports that when he arrived at his new home he managed two circuits around the kitchen and then found the most comfortable chair next to the Aga where he has remained ever since!

Sarah Wilkinson
Sarah is Cornish born and bred and was brought up in Fowey. Her father was a postman and her mother a housewife and a part-time medical secretary. Before moving to St Veep they started up a Welsh pony stud.
Sarah has qualifications in RSA Pitmans script, RSA II English and RSA III typing.
She is the office manager within our practice and is specifically interested in maintaining a happy and cheerful office. Sarah enjoys having a good relationship with the farm and equine clients, and working with colleagues and vets.
Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family, riding, running (and the occasional race) and generally keeping fit.
Sarah has a lot of pets. These include a Syrian hamster, a Russian hamster, six Guinea Pigs, one rabbit, six cats, two dogs, twenty (yes- 20!) ponies and twelve chickens. One of the dogs was rehomed from the practice approx 10 years ago after being involved in a road traffic accident, both hindlegs were dislocated and his pelvis was fractured. In February 2009 he needed a spinal operation with Colin but he has made a full recovery and is running around once more.
Sam Jayne
Sam is one of our farm and equine administrators who is responsible for invoicing and stock management.
Outside of work she is interested in running and fitness.
She has two dogs at home- a retriever and a spaniel.
Her aims are to keep improving our customer service.
Vanessa Batten RVN
Vanessa qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1980. She grew up in Cornwall and went to Plymouth and Berkshire to train as a veterinary nurse before returning to Cornwall upon qualification.
Within the practice she is responsible for stock maintenance and general reception duties. She particulary enjoys liasing with farmers with regards to their needs.
Outside of work Vanessa enjoys riding and walking.
She aims to adjust the stock management system to further our quality service to our clients and ease of use for our staff.
Jane Wingfield
Jane has a certificate in personnel management and is a member of our reception staff at our St Columb Major surgery.
Her background is in human resources in a hospital until moving back to Cornwall to work for the Cornwall Health Authority.
Outside of work Jane is interested in motor racing and all equine events.
She lives with her husband Phil and their cat Taggart.

Sue Eley
Sue is one of our receptionists who is based at our Newquay surgery.
She was born in Bath and started work as a hairdresser there before moving to Cornwall and working in a local veterinary practice for 23 years. During that time she gained her Pre-Veterinary Nursing Diploma- qualifying with distinction.
Sue is particularly interested in caring for our clients and their pets. She has a particular soft spot for stray and needy animals and regularly rears orphaned animals.
Outside of work Sue has competed in Latin American Dancing and has won the Devon & Cornwall/ West of England championships in the past. She also enjoys equestrian activities and is training her horse Floyd to compete in Dressage to Music. She is also breaking and bringing on her three year old part bred Arab pony who she acquired when he was six months old. He was a twin.
She enjoys the countryside, gardening, hairdressing, watercolour painting and art.
Sue has five cats, two dogs (one collie called Buster that Sue bred and a crossbred called Benjimen), three horses, Japanese Koi and two budgerigars.
Sue aims to become more involved in veterinary nursing in the future.
Tracey Robertson
Tracey is one of our receptionists who is based at our St Columb surgery. She is responsible for all aspects of client care at reception and small animal clients telephoning the surgery.
She is a lively and friendly member of the practice team and is keen to make tea and deliver cakes to keep her colleagues happy.
Outside of work Tracey is interested in food and wine and lives with her two dogs (one of whom loves sun worshipping on the lounger).
Coleen Shepherd
Colleen moved to Cornwall in 2002 with her family. She has worked as a receptionist and negotiator. She loves meeting people and joined us at Penmellyn in 2009.
She is one of our receptionists at our Newquay surgery.
Colleen particulary enjoys seeing sick animals returned to good health and can empathise with their owners since she has had many animals of her own in the past.
She currently has a 10 year old spaniel who was rehomed from a Windsor dog’s home 8 years ago. He had previously been found walking the streets in Wales and now enjoys a lazy life following his owners around.
Outside of work Colleen enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, DIY and lots of circular walks with her husband and dog.
Christine Coles
Christine is one of our St Columb Major receptionists. She joined the practice in March 2011. Her responsibilities are divided between handling telephone calls and the reception desk.
Katrina Milton
Katrina is our accounts assistant. She joined us at the practice in March 2011. She is based at our St Columb Major surgery. Her work is 'behind the scenes' assisting our practice manager with financial issues.
Hope Woods
Hope joined the practice in March 2011. She is one of the receptionist based at our St Columb Major surgery. Her responsibilities involve looking after the clients on the phone as well as the reception.
Jane Hughes- Jones
Jane is our receptionist at our Pool surgery. Originally from Cheshire Jane has worked in veterinary practice for the last twenty years. She moved to Cornwall in 2008 with her daughter. She has one cat called Storm who is a rescue cat she obtained from Cats Protection League.
Outside of work Jane is a championship show dog judge and has successfully competed showing her Lhasa Apsos- achieving champion status with many. She also enjoys reading, visits to the cinema and holidays- preferably somewhere sunny and hot!.
Jane has worked for us previously at our St Columb branch and is now looking forward to welcoming clients to Pool .
