The Equine Team at Penmellyn Veterinary Group want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued trust and support which has allowed us to grow and improve our services over the years.
The economic slow down of recent times has encouraged the practice to improve on efficiency and effectiveness and we hope that this is reflected in our services to you. We are pleased and proud that the practice has grown on all levels in the last 12 month with first opinion and referred work growing on equal levels. Many more clients bring their horses, ponies or donkeys to the surgery for preventative, diagnostic or surgical procedures. Due to this development one or two of our vets spend most of their time seeing horses at the surgery next to looking after all the in patients.
To promote our services in a better way we have recently re designed our website: www.penmellyn.co.uk . The aim was to make the site more user friendly and to improve information flow between the practice and our own clients and the increasing number of referring veterinary practices. Please do familiarize yourself with all the content of the new website which we will update and extend on a regular basis. The CONSENT FORM section within the Equine part of the website contains all relevant forms in a simple format and they can be easily downloaded and filled in before the horse, pony or donkey needs admission to the surgery. This should speed up the admission process and allow us to fully focus on clinical matters the moment the animal arrives at our facilities. Keeping the necessary paperwork to a minimum while improving communications between client and the practice is essential and the CLIENT INFORMATION part should guide horse owners/keepers through what is required before admission to or after discharge from the surgery.
Equine insurance cover in recent years has become much more complex and it is of vital importance for insured clients to be fully aware of all pre-existing conditions, exclusions and claim limits next to expiry dates before an animal is admitted for a specific procedure. Pre authorization by insurance companies is often required for procedures and reading the small print of your policy is more important than ever. The practice’s experience with most insurance companies is good although early claim submission is essential for prompt payments and we will make every effort to complete and forward the claims forms in good time. To take out insurance with a reputable company, choose a sensible excess sum and a realistic amount of cover can often result in an effort able premium that gives you access to best possible treatment options without the financial worries should disaster strike.
To improve predictability and avoid misunderstandings the practice now will give written estimates on request on all procedures and with all hospitalized horses will aim to keep you up to date on clinical as well as financial developments. We believe it is only fair in times of economic austerity to be open and clear about all developments surrounding your animal in our care. Each hospitalized animal is allocated to a case veterinary surgeon who is responsible for all decisions involving your animal and he/she, assisted by our nurses, will keep you informed about all relevant developments and seek informed consent when necessary. This system has been in place for several years and has worked well but we now actively promote that fact, as effective case management is the key to a positive relationship between animal owner/keeper and the responsible veterinary surgeon.
2010 proved a tough year for most people and 2011 does not look to be any easier but these circumstances have taught us more than ever to work within budgets, estimate realistically and raise awareness of the true status of insurance cover.
Writing all this is not really in the spirit of Christmas and I almost ought to sign this letter as Ebenezer Scrooge. But then, on a positive note – we treated and cured more sick and injured animals in the last 12 month then ever before and that is what our profession is really all about. As times get tougher we just have to try that much harder to maintain the current status or improve on it. Whatever 2011 will bring, our aim will always be to provide affordable access to the highest standards of clinical care to all animals entrusted to us.
Compassion and sympathy towards all animals and their owners in distress will always be the leading principle in our daily work accompanied by a spirit of openness to our clients so that we can provide the best possible care for all your animals.
Wishing you, your family and all your animals a Merry Christmas and Luck, Health and Happiness in the New Year.
